Louis Barrios

Asst. Jiu-Jitsu Instructor/Kids Coach

Louis Barrios began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Judo simultaneously in July 2000. Although he has continued to train Judo, because of the freedom allowed, BJJ drew his focus, and this became his specialty. His initial BJJ instructor was Victor Mcleod, an affiliate of Maguilla/Nova Uniao. The six years that Louis trained with Victor, Louis developed the foundations of his game, and belief of the fundamentals in BJJ. To this day, this is evident in his personal style. In 2004 Louis started to compete seriously, and began winning BJJ and Judo tournaments. Since that time he has medaled in nearly every tournament that he has entered. In 2006 Louis moved to Durham North Carolina, and began training and teaching with Team ROC. There he spent three years refining his game, and eventually earning a purple belt from Royce Gracie in 2008. In 2009 Louis moved to Wilmington and began training with the Evolution Mixed Martial Arts team in Wrightsville Beach North Carolina. During his time spent here, Louis was able to refine his game even further and earned his brown belt from Renato “Charuto” Verissimo, and eventually earned his black belt as well in early 2013. Currently Louis teaches the Saturday morning kids class, can be found in several other classes during the week, and is available for privates.

Megan Moskow

Asst. Jiu-Jitsu Instructor

Megan started training at Evolution MMA in July of 2009. Initially she was looking for a new way to get into shape, and was enrolled only in the kickboxing program. However, intrigued by the Jiu Jitsu classes happening in the other room, she made the switch to BJJ after two months.

Once on the mat, Megan thrives on the physically demanding techniques and smooth execution that the gentle art of Jiu Jitsu provides. She represents Nova União as part of a small but growing population of female grapplers in North Carolina. From white belt to present, she has competed all along the Southeast. Megan’s biggest accomplishment in competition came in August of 2013 when she took home a gold medal in the Women’s Blue Belt Light-Feather weight division of the IBJJF Atlanta Open.

In addition to training consistently for six years, Megan received Bachelor degrees’ in Communication Studies and Psychology from University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
